Jack Dempsey Postcard in PSA Slab
Signed card
Jack Dempsey (1895-1983). Fantastic PSA slabbed Jack Dempsey signed postcard with an illustration depicting Dempsey's knockout of Jess Willard on July 4, 1919, making him Heavyweight Champion of the World. Back of the card is inscribed "To Bob Good Luck Pal" and signed "Jack Dempsey" with a paraph underscoring his last name. Measures 5.25" x 3.5" encapsulated in a PSA slab measuring 7.125" x 4.125". Exhibits some scattered spots of discoloration, light toning and light handling wear especially at edges and corners, image side of postcard shows a loss where tape removed some of the surface, else fine and boldly signed by the 1919 World Champ! PSA graded MINT 9.
William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey (June 24, 1895 – May 31, 1983) was an American boxer who held the Heavyweight Championship Belt from 1919 to 1926. Matches he was in were the first to make a one-million and two-million-dollar gate. After his boxing career, he opened Jack Dempsey's Restaurant in New York City in 1934, which became Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant when it moved to Broadway between 49th and 50th Streets. This postcard is an ad for the restaurant, at its second location, which means we can date Dempsey's autograph on it between 1947 when the restaurant moved, and 1974 when it eventually closed.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
