Jacob Ferdinand Voet
Antwerp 1639 – 1689 Paris
Portrait of a gentleman with the Order of the Saint-Esprit

Oil on canvas, an oval
72,6 x 59,2 cm ; 28⅝ by 23¼ in.

We are grateful to Francesco Petrucci for endorsing the attribution of the present portrait to Jacob Ferdinand Voet on the basis of images.

Catalogue Note:
Voet's more compact handling of his paint together with his inclusion of the insignia of the Order of the Holy Spirit, an honour conferred by the King of France, support a dating to the final phase of the artist's career in France (1684-1689). As such, this beautiful portrait is a rare, late work by the artist.
