Jacqueline Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy Signed Valentine's Day Card to JFK's Cousin Ann Gargan

[ translate ]

Vintage circa early 1960s Valentine's Day card featuring a petal-plucking bird on the front, measuring 3.5 x 5 closed, signed inside in blue ballpoint by Jacqueline Kennedy on her young daughter's behalf, "Love from Carolina Valentine," with Caroline's childish scribble below. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original envelope, addressed in Jacqueline Kennedy's hand, "Miss Anne Gargan, c/o Joseph Kennedy."

Ann Gargan was JFK’s first cousin, the daughter of Rose Kennedy’s younger sister, Agnes Fitzgerald Gargan. Orphaned at a young age, Ann and her siblings remained closely connected to the Kennedy family, spending considerable time with their cousins at Hyannis Port and other family homes. She later became a devoted caretaker to her uncle, Joseph P. Kennedy, remaining at the former ambassador’s side during the years of disability that followed his 1961 stroke; through her, JFK maintained an especially personal connection to his ailing father.

From the estate of Ann Gargan King.
