Notes/Literature: Jacques Gotko, a highly regarding Parisian painter, was interned at the Compiegne camp in 1942, during a Nazi purge of Jews in Paris. During his internment, Gotko continued to draw, documenting the conditions of the camp. Many of these works were acquired by fellow interned artists and intellectuals, and were later preserved in the collections of the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum and the Musee d'Histoire Contemporaine. In 1943 Gotko was transferred to Auschwitz, where he died that year
