Provenance:
Major General Pierpont Morgan Hamilton (1898-1982; reputedly gifted by Muhammad V, the Sultan of Morocco (1927-1957) circa 1950-1951 for services to his kingdom both during WWII and thereafter; Major General Hamilton was a military office in the United States Air Force and won the military’s highest decoration - the Medal of Honor in World War II. This was for a dangerous mission near Port-Lyautey, French Morocco, and Hamilton was cited for ‘conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action above and beyond the call of duty while serving as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Western Task Force’. Hamilton then continued his military career in Washington, retiring only in 1859. He also returned to Morocco in diplomatic status to oversee building of US air bases and as a result, was given further distinctions by the Sultan. He was a descendant of two famous families in American history: The Hamilton family, which traces its lineage to founding father Alexander Hamilton and the Morgan family, which traces its lineage to financier and banker JP Morgan)
