Jacquin, Baron Nicolaus Joseph - Stapeliarum in Hortis Vindobonensibus Cultarum

[ translate ]

"Stapeliarum in Hortis Vindobonensis Cultarum - Descriptiones Figuris Coloratis Illustratae."

Copy number 68 of 150 copies printed.

This collectors' edition was bound by Peter Carstens in green oasis leather and fine quality buckram bookcloth and is contained in the original matching slipcase covered with the same buckram and leather trim.

Coloured end papers, 20 pages followed by the 64 full page colour plates with text in Latin. The foreword by Dr. R. A. Dyer is in English.

This is a facsimile of the edition published in Vienna between 1806 and 1819. It was the first facsimile in a proposed series of reprints to be called the "Botanic Classica Series".

A valuable feature of this edition is the inclusion at the end of the volume of an up-to-date nomenclature revision of the species in the book, and of course, this Peter Carstens leather binding is far superior to the rather ugly "simulated leather" binding of the standard edition. The 64 plates feature species from the Cape of Good Hope and 19 of them are described by Jacquin for the first time.
