Catalogue Note:
The Gyrotourbillon 1 collection was introduced in 2004 having been developed by the watchmaking genius Eric Coudray designer Magali Metrailler at Jaeger-LeCoultre and who’s brief was to create a movement that resolved potential timing errors caused by the effects of gravity and was named the caliber 177. At its launch it was one of the very few multi-axis tourbillons available and considered one of the most important contemporary watches made. At its heart was the brands first multi-axis tourbillon made up of 90 parts with a total weight of only 0.336 grams and consists of two carriages on two axis and different timing, with the external rotating every 60 seconds and the internal every 24 seconds, completing 2.5 turns per minute.

In additional to this technical marvel, the watch features a perpetual calendar complication that displays on both the back and front of the watch, with date and month displayed in retrograde fashion. The equation of time complication is displayed on the front, and indicates the difference between apparent solar time and mean solar time and offers an insight into the world of celestial mechanics. In addition, each watch is calibrated to a specific geographical location, in this instance New York, with a maximum deviation of 4 minutes as displayed on a plaque affixed to the movement.

Made in a limited series of 75 examples, each one is individually numbered to the case back (the current lot being 4 of 75) and cased in platinum. The watch is presented in exceptional condition and is accompanied by its full set of accessories including inner and outer box with magnifying glass, travel box, and all product literature and booklets.
