Jalisco Polychrome Juglet Geometric Decoration

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A beautiful pottery vessel presenting a bulbous body, a slanted shoulder, a slender neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Enveloped in a lustrous shade of burnt sienna, the body of the vessel is adorned with black and beige decoration of 3 horizontal registers, comprised of a castellated motif at the bottom, a zigzag design in the center, and triangular pattern on the shoulder, all separated by parallel horizontal striations. Size: 4.75" in diameter x 6.25" H (12.1 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Toluca Lake, California, USA collection, before 2000

Condition Report: Collection label on base. Repaired from a few large pieces with restoration over break lines. Some light nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining pigments, as well as rich manganese and earthen deposits.
