Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of a male mourner seated with his right hand holding his left wrist. Head bowed and shoulders sunk, his gaze affixed downwards from generously lidded eyes, while his mouth gapes as if audibly embroiled in one of the stages of grief. Red pigment covers his body, faint black stripes are visible along his back, and areas of white pigment are still visible along his necklace and headdress. Size: 4" L x 4.125" W x 5.6" H (10.2 cm x 10.5 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
