N.B.The inscription on the reverse is of interest not only because it identifies the artist, but also because of the dedication to an Andrew Turnbull. The Turnbulls, whose 18th-century patriarch (also named Andrew Turnbull) was a famed Scottish physician and diplomat, were a prominent family in Charleston County, South Carolina. James Bogle was born in nearby Georgetown, South Carolina, and lived much of his professional life in Charleston.
