Elsa Steyns, born de Cavel, was the wife of Désiré Steyns, director of the Ostend Casino. As a singer, she created sensation after World War I. The art-loving couple were friends with several artists.
Albert Croquez mentions this print in a handwritten note in his first catalogue raisonné of 1935 and refers to Désiré Steyns as the owner.
