Note:
Two other versions of this watercolour are held at the Lambert Collection at Barbican House, Lewes. Lewes Castle is an 1000 year-old Norman fortress originally constructed by William de Warenne (d.1088), a supporter of William the Conqueror, to defend and reinforce his grip on power.
