James Monroe Document Signed as President
Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.75 x 10.25, February 12, 1819. President Monroe appoints a soldier to be "a Third Lieutenant in the 29th Infantry in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by President Monroe and countersigned by Secretary of War John C. Calhoun. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. Folded and in very good to fine condition, with Monroe's signature a couple of shades light, and Calhoun's signature very light.
