Beautiful representation of Alkmaar with the Waag with figures, boats. Jan Simon Knikker, also known as Jan, was born in 1911 in Leiden. He lived and worked in Wassenaar, Voorschoten and The Hague. Signed with Jan Knikker Jr. Son of Jan Simon Knikker Sr. He was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (1928-1932) and he painted landscapes and cityscapes in a figurative style. He is seen as a follower of the Hague School. His cityscapes are particularly sought after abroad.
