Just like his father "Jan" Simon Sr, Jan Knikker is considered one of the heirs of the Hague School.
He lived and worked in The Hague for most of his life.
His specialty is painting impressionistic landscapes and lively cityscapes, where portraying a certain mood and atmosphere was paramount.
