Jan Ouwersloot Gouda 1902- Amsterdam 1975 was a self-taught artist. He painted landscapes, harbour scapes and cityscapes. He was considered by the ‘Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie’ to be part of the painting movement "De Populisten" because he often painted subjects from his own environment and daily life in a naive realistic style. He was a member of "De Onafhankelijken" from 1927 to 1964. Despite all his merits, Ouwersloot has fallen into oblivion. Fortunately, the museum has also recently discovered more of him.
