Jan Schaeffer (1923 - 2018 in Rotterdam) is a versatile artist. He was best known for his Rotterdam harbours, landscapes, river views, cityscapes and still lifes. All this in a romantic-figurative style, reminiscent of the Hague School.
Image and especially color fascinated him. In his old age he was still painting in his studio every day.
A Jan Schaeffer can always be recognized by the smooth brushwork and the harmonious use of color with a bright accent here and there.
