\Artist: Jan de Baen (1633-1702)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 98_84_5_cm
A beautiful portrait of Baroness Maria van Bleiswijck (1652-1718) by baroque painter Jan de Baen (1633-1702) . Jan de Baen was a pupil of Jacob Adriaensz Backer and often painted portraits of dignitaries. The frame is possibly 17th century. The painting was probably restretched in the 19th century. The painting has recently been cleaned (by a professional restoration studio) which removed the yellowed old varnish layer and dirt and the old mastic has been levelled. As a result, the painting has a very pleasant appearance and is in a good preserved condition. This restoration report (see photos) is included with the painting. In Iconographia Batava by E. Moes mention has been made of this painting (reference number 723) , and in the RKD - Netherlands Institute for Art History one finds some provenance history (auction 18 February 1858 and 31 May 1881) . Shipping in a wooden transport box.
