Jan van Anrooy was a true Dutch impressionist, who was mainly inspired by the flat, Dutch meadows with its canals, flowering orchards, the beach and the sea. He put his landscapes on the canvas with a strong brushstroke and bright, pronounced colors. Van Anrooy changed his place of residence many times. He lived and worked in Zaltbommel, Den Bosch, Zoutelande, Elst and The Hague and for a longer period in Deil near the Linge in Gelderse. He also lived in South Africa. He was trained at the famous School for Art, Technology and Crafts in Den Bosch under the guidance of the painter Huib Luns. He learned 'showing his colours' from Frans Oerder.
