Japanese Edo Bamboo Arrows w/ Wood Arrow Rack (25)

East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. 1603 to 1868 CE. A fine gathering of twenty-five arrows with slender bodies formed from bamboo, conical iron tips meant for piercing armor and hide alike, and stabilization feathers on the ends. Included with the arrows is a tall, rectangular arrow rack (yakago) with iron strips reinforcing the corners as well as slots to hold a maximum of fifty arrows. Size (arrow rack): 10.75" W x 26.2" H (27.3 cm x 66.5 cm); (longest arrow): 36.5" L (92.7 cm).

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired 2010 (arrow case) and 2013 (arrows); ex-private Onomichi, Hiroshima, Japan collection

#151119 Dimensions: Condition Report: Arrow case has minor nicks to some vertical bars and light encrustations near iron strips, otherwise intact and very good. Losses to iron tips and feathers of some arrows, with one arrow broken near the midsection. Nice patina on arrow rack and arrows.
