Japanese Ink and Light Color Orchid Calligraphy Hanging Scroll

Japanese hanging scroll, or kakejiku, executed in ink and light pigments on paper. The composition features a flowering orchid, or ran, rendered in expressive suibokuga brushwork alongside two large calligraphic characters in cursive script. A vertical line of smaller calligraphy is present in the upper right quadrant, accompanied by two red cinnabar seals. The rightmost seal consists of four characters in seal script, while the leftmost seal also contains four characters in a geometric seal script; neither mark is clearly legible as a specific name. The work is mounted on a decorative silk textile backing with traditional wooden rollers finished in red lacquer-like ends.
