Japanese Koto Wakizashi by Osafune Bizen Tomo Hisa

Japanese Koto period (pre-1596) sword by Osafune Bizen Tomo Hisa with spectacular hamon. The blade measures 26 1/8" overall with 20 1/4" cutting edge. It is 1 1/8" wide at hamachi and 7/8" at yokote. The blade has a typical Bizen shape and is signed “Osafune Tomo Hisa". The hamon is very active combination of ko-choji and ko-gunome loaded with hataraki. It has a thick deep nioi-guchi with an equal covering of thick deep ko-nie. There is thick ashi and fine ji-nie and abundance of sunagashi which runs thickly throughout the hamon with a bit of kinsuji.The boshi is thick and almost becomes ichi-boshi as it is so wide. The hada is equally spectacular with a thick dense mokume with itame throughout with abundant chikei and ji-nie. There are no openings, blisters or hagire. The kissaki is a longish extended chu-kissaki with wide thick boshi. It comes with a thickly carved copper habaki of cloud/wave design and mounted in rare Wakazashi military mounts in good condition. The tsuba is a sukashi style which is usually found on the higher end swords.
