Japanese Meiji Paintings - Samurai on Horses (pr)

[ translate ]

East Asia, Japan, Meiji period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely pair of paintings on paper depicting samurai warriors upon magnificent horses. The samurai are dressed in striking patterns and vibrant hues of red, blue, green, white, black and shimmery metallic silver! Both samurai are helmeted and carry katana swords and bows. The first rides a white horse that is looking over its shoulder and the other rides a prancing black horse. The artist's signature/seal are written and stamped in black and red ink on the lower right corner. These paintings complement each other nicely and should be hung close together so the white horse can keep an eye on his friend. These are mounted in modern frames and are ready to be displayed.
