[ translate ]

East Asia, Japan, Ando Jubei (Japanese, 1876-1953), 20th century. A beautiful and sizeable vintage Japanese wireless cloisonne vase rimmed with shiny nickel silver bands created by the famous Ando Jubei workshop and signed on the underside of the base with the Ando mark. This vessel presents with a baluster form and a jade green hued ground adorned with lighter green floral and foliate motifs as well as two encircled diamonds with "S" motifs around the shoulder. To create this decorative program, the Ando Jubei workshop used the musen shippo technique. The various motifs were shaped by using wire and then the forms were hand painted. Before firing, the wires were removed thus revealing the attracive imagery. Finally, the vase was embellished with a high gloss finish and nickel silver bands were set on the foot and lip.
