Jasper Johns (American, b. 1930)

Figure 4, from the series Black Numeral, 1968, edition of 70 plus proofs, published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles (NGA/Gemini, 26.5). Signed and dated "J. Johns '68" in pencil l.r., numbered "67/70" in pencil l.l., publisher's and copyright dry stamps l.r., identified on a label from Harcus Krakow Rosen Sonnabend, Boston, affixed to the backing. Lithograph in gray inks on paper, images size 27 3/8 x 21 1/8 in. (69.4 x 53.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Full sheet with deckled edges, minor handling crease to margin l.r., floated within the frame, not examined out of frame.
Estimate $6,000-8,000

Out of the frame the work is hinged at the upper corners and 1/2 way down the left and right edges. There are resulting ripples visible on the face of the sheet where the hinges are attached to the verso. There are minor handling creases to the margins. The most noticeable is near the signature. The very edges of the sheet are subtly toned. Because of the hinges the full of the back of the sheet cannot be seen, but it is numbered "68-190" in pencil and stamped "GEMINI G.E.L./LOS ANGELES, CALIF." both near the drystamps on the verso. The frame is 40 1/4 x 3 1/4 x 1 3/4 in.

Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
