Jasper Johns. January 26 Thru February 28, 1965 Pasadena Art Museum (Lithograph Exhibition Poster, White Flag Image Of His Flag #1, In Two States)
By Johns, Jasper
Exhibition Poster 24" X 18", Light Brown Paper With Cream Color Abstract Lithographed Image, Folded Twice For Mailing, Otherwise Fine, Just A 1/4" Split At Edge Of One Fold Far From Image Or Writing. This Is Present In Both States, Both Facsimiles Of #19 (Of 33) Of The First Of His Flag Lithographs: One Poster Includes A Reproduction Of The Signature And Numbering Of The Original 1960 Lithograph From Which This Reproduction Was Made, The Other Has No Signature Or Artist's Numbering And Varies Slightly In The Image. These Reproductions Are Unique, As They Are Reproductions In White Of Flag #1, Which Was Issued Only In Black; His Later Official White Flag Lithographs (Flag Ii Etc.) Have Greatly Altered Images. These Two Posters Were Individually Printed As The Images Vary Slightly; It Appears That The "Signed" One Is An Image Of The Original #19, But The Unsigned One Is Taken Directly From An Original Master Print.
