LOT 216 -

Jasper van der Lanen

[ translate ]

(Antwerp circa 1592 – after 1629)
Noli me tangere,
oil on copper, 27.5 x 39.2 cm, framed

The present painting is accompanied by a written certificate by Klaus Ertz (February 2018).

Ertz writes: ‘Having thoroughly examined the present painting, I am convinced that it is an original of high quality by the Flemish artist Jasper van der Lanen, painted in Antwerp in the early 1630s. Unfortunately, little is known about this landscapist. He is documented to have been a student of Nicolas Geerts in 1607. In 1615/16 he became a master of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke; when Abraham Govaerts died in 1626, he was entrusted with completing the latter’s unfinished paintings. His landscapes follow in the tradition of his friend Govaerts. Next to Abraham Govaerts, Jan Brueghel the Elder should be mentioned as a second important model for his landscapes.’
