BROWSE CATALOG (copy link) : https: //www. sfogliami. it/fl/238096/8jr1pv76d1rru6kefskr5ynnmzdrt1#page/71 NOTES: Publication of the catalog of works from the Intermidiart collection. Certificate of Guarantee and Lawful Origin. Artwork with golden frame: The work - depicting an Innocence girl holding a white dove in her arms - seems to compare well with the creations of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (Tournus, 1725 - Paris, 1805) , French author who created many works by this tenor and representations of children and young people affectively postured women. His creations, however, do not lack artistic determination and psychological introspection, expressed with an exquisitely rocaille feeling, without forgetting that subtle vein of eroticism that his images emanate, as in 'La Jeune Femme au chapeau blanc' (1780) . During his career Greuze painted numerous portraits called tête d'expression in which he emphasized the psychological effect of representing moods. The painter had achieved great success at the Salons with genre paintings depicting themes of family affections in interior scenes with various figures. The size of these portraits was generally that of our canvas, a sign of a domestic destination. Towards 1780, following the classical fashion of the time, he began to paint female portraits with “old-fashioned” clothes, with an “aristocratic” appearance, such as the Portrait of Sophie Arnould (1876) from the Wallace Collection in London. However, alongside these "old-fashioned" portraits, Greuze continues to paint the heads of common youth and adolescents, such as our painting in which the young girl is caught with her hair and clothes in the wind, thus anticipating the romantic taste, which would later be succeeded Neoclassicism after the first decades of the nineteenth century. The free and quick brushstroke detaches this painting from the usual portraits and copies made by followers and imitators, assigning the work to a performer close to the master. Regarding its state of conservation, the canvas is in fair general condition considering the time of the painting, the pictorial surface is dirty and in patina. We can see - in Wood's light - some small scattered restorations and some slight unveiling and oxidation of the pictorial surface. There are no serious conservative problems, which do not seem to need interventions. In sunlight, a fine crackle is visible compared to the time. The work still appears on the first canvas with a contemporary frame. The measures of the canvas are cm. 43 x 33. The painting is sold with a gilded frame (the dimensions of the frame are approx. 54 x 44 x 5 cm) . ORIGIN: Coll. private PUBLICATION: Unpublished; MYTHS AND THE TERRITORY in Sicily with a thousand cultures.
