However, the expert disagrees and has stated that it is not a portrait of Nadine de Rothschild. Jean-Gabriel Domergue, was a painter born in Bordeaux on the 4th of March 1889. He died in Paris in 1962. He was a second cousin of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, son of a wealthy family. As a young man, he probably had painting lessons by Degas. The young Domergue was a very driven painter. In 1911 he won the Prix de Rome. Jean-Gabriel created a typical, Parisian woman with a long slim neck and large intriguing eyes. This manner of painting has brought him fame and fortune. In 1936 he had a villa built in Cannes. Jean-Gabriel Domergue was a cultivated and intelligent man. During his life he assembled an impressive art collection with works by Renoir, Bonnard, Berthe Morisot, de Vlaminck, Valtat and others. . He suddenly passed away in 1962.
