[ translate ]

Jean KRILLÉ (1923–1991) Landscape Oil on panel Signed "Krillé" lower left 99 x 120 cm Framed DESCRIPTION At the age of 16, he enrolled at the Zurich School of Fine Arts, then at the Vevey School of Arts and Crafts. In 1945, he moved to Paris for five years, where he furthered his studies at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts and, at the same time, frequented the Saint-Germain district frequented by the existentialists—including Prévert, Sartre, and Le Corbusier. His early works included book illustrations, lithographs, posters, drawings, and press features. An avid traveler, he was particularly drawn to Africa, where he put his many talents as an architect, painter, and reporter to use. In 1964, he left for the United States, where he spent several years—which explains why his works are featured in numerous American museums. He devoted himself primarily to landscapes, inspired by real-life scenes. Bordering on abstraction, he works with vivid colors, which are also found in his still lifes.
