Jean Louis Rouvière active 1781-1806 - Rare Louis XVI Mantel Clock & Cassolettes signed Rouvière a Paris (3) - Louis XV - Bronze, Ormolu, Carrara Marble - circa 1780

An impressive and rare Louis XVI French 18th century clock with matching cassolettes dating to circa 1780 by Jean-Louis Rouvière. Clock with 8-day movement striking on the half-hour on one bell, with silk suspended pendulum movement. The set comprises one portico clock and two double usage side garnitures. The circular white-enameled Arabic dial signed 'Rouvière a Paris', the movement with silk-suspended pendulum and outside count wheel strike on a bell each half-hour, within a drum case. The drum case surmounted by an urn of flowers and ormolu mounts throughout mount below, the twin-barrel movement with sunburst pendulum. Complete with key and bell. After becoming a master in 1781, Jean-Louis Rouvière opened a workshop in the rue de Rohan in 1783. He is recorded in the rue du Petit Lion Saint-Sauveur, 1789 - 1806. Soon gaining renown, he built up a wealthy private clientele. In the early 19th century, certain of his clocks were mentioned in important contemporary collections; among them, a mahogany clock cited in a probate inventory drawn up in May 1835 after the death of Anne de Damas, the widow of collector Charles-François, Count de Simiane.
