Jean-Marc ROLLAND, known as Marc VUBASSONE (20th century).
"Rhinoceros."
Painted metal sculpture.
H: 85 - W: 55 - D: 240 cm.
Provenance:
This work was created as part of a nonprofit performance organized jointly in 2018 by the City of Orléans, the Rotary Service Club, and an auctioneer from Orléans.
All participants worked voluntarily to benefit sick children in desperate need of an expensive prosthetic hand.
The City Hall therefore invited (and provided, on the Quai du Châtelet, the necessary electricity and metals) all the metal sculptors in the region for a weekend, with the mission of creating, within 48 hours, a work of their own choosing but based on the theme of the Loire.
Of course, the connection between the Loire and a rhinoceros isn’t obvious—except to a very knowledgeable sculptor who knew that, at the mouth of the Loire before our era, there were animals of this kind.
