Born in Exeter in 1949, Annear was influenced from an early age by the St. Ives school of art as well as European modernists such as Paul Klee, Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. He lives and works in Cornwall, carrying on the tradition of abstract art begun by Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson in the 1940s. Working mostly in oil, his works involve a gradual layering of paint in order to achieve a relief like effect. The counterbalancing of curves and edges aim to achieve a harmony of shape and form. Annear has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally to great critical acclaim.
