Born in Navasota, Texas and then living in San Antonio and Douglas, Arizona, Jessie Petty married Thomas Petty, an army officer and lived various places where he was assigned including Fort Sam Houston at San Antonio. In 1930 she moved to Douglas, Arizona and returned later in her life to San Antonio. In Texas and Arizona she painted landscapes and missions. She was a student of Xavier Gonzalez, Jose Arpa, and Harry Anthony De Young. In Texas, she was a member of the San Antonio Art League, the Palette and Chisel Club, Southern States Art League, San Antonio Contemporary Art Group, and Texas Fine Arts Association. National affiliations included the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors and American Federation of Arts.
