Jewelery box - Napoleon III - Brass, Wood - 23th May 1853
A 19th century jewellery box made during the French Napoleon III period, dated 23 May 1853. The box is made from a light (coniferous) type of wood, glued with blackened / ebonised pear veneer. The lid is edged with a jagged edge, inlaid with double brass piping and marquetry of engraved brass with imitation turtle. The entire inside is lined with the original black paper printed with a textured pattern. In the lid is a mirror, framed with quarter round ebony frame work. The jewellery box still has the original brass hinges and a lock, a working key is missing unfortunately. The key entrance is also of engraved brass. At the bottom, the jewellery box is glued with a dark green paper and rests on small decorated legs. The jewellery box has a nice shine, which elegantly contrasts the black and shows off the polished brass in the best way!
. The item will be sent well packed and with insurance!
