Jim Starlin Gilgamesh II #2 Story Page 44 Original Art (DC, 1989). Victory brings a fragile moment of relief as Gilgamesh cradles Otto after their battle with the Nightshadow, grateful that his only friend appears to have survived, on this poignant page from "Land of the Nightshadow." Beneath its superhuman battles, Jim Starlin's dystopian science-fiction miniseries explores mortality, friendship, corporate power, and the loneliness of living as a near-god. The pair's bond and adventures echo those of Gilgamesh and Enkidu in the ancient Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, which supplied the series with both its inspiration and title. Though noted as Page 45 in the top margin, it appears as Story Page 44 in the issue. Twice-up scale in ink over graphite on DC Bristol board with an image area of 11.75" x 17.75". Slight toning, smudging/soiling, discolored production tape, slight ink fading, and handling wear. Signed by Starlin in the lower left. In Excellent condition.
