Six months later, on March 26, 1979, Begin and Sadat met in Washington, DC, to sign the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, for which the two won the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadat's signing of the treaty was a leading cause of his assassination by rebel militants inside Egypt in 1981.
