[ translate ]

Joan Miro (1893–1983)
Composition, 1982
Original lithograph printed in colours on wove paper, from Derriere le Miroir no. 250, "Hommage a Aime et Marguerite Maeght", Maeght, Paris, August 1982
Dimensions: Sheet 38 × 56 cm (15 × 22 in.)

References: Cramer 253
Black creature-signs dance across a scratched vermilion ground among crayoned words — "Aime", "MAEGHT", "aigle", "papillon", "doux" — the letters themselves drawn into the swarm of figures. Miro turns the dedication into the image, a farewell in his own pictographic alphabet to the dealer who had shown him since 1948. Published in the final, memorial issue of Derriere le Miroir.
