Joan Pere Viladecans
JOAN PERE VILADECANS (Barcelona, 1948).
Untitled. Entrebancs" series.
Four lithographs, H.C. copy.
Signed and justified by hand.
Measurements: 56 x 76 cm. c.u.
Self-taught, Viladecans became known in 1967 through an exhibition at the Cercle de Sant Lluc, in Barcelona. The success of this exhibition brought him early recognition, and since then he has held exhibitions in Spain, Canada, Germany, Mexico, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Luxembourg. His solo exhibitions include the Seville Expo (1992), the UNTER DM in Cologne (2001), the Berlin exhibition of his work on paper (2003) and two in Barcelona, "Síntomas y Enfermedades" and "Patrimonio y Memoria", in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Viladecans began his career profoundly influenced by two of the most renowned Catalan artists of the 20th century, Antoni Tàpies and Joan Brossa. His early work originates in a formal baroque style full of poetic resonances, mixing techniques, with a dense brushstroke that brings him close to matter painting. Subsequently, his creations have been developed and refined through a complex process of synthesis that culminates in the configuration of a strictly personal aesthetic language, based on reflection and a constant dialogue between instinct and reason, figuration and abstraction.
