BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST

Joaquín Tudela y Perales (Játiva, (province of Valencia, 1891-1970) was a Spanish painter. He belonged to the Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos and the Academy of Barcelona. He is considered one of the Spanish masters of landscaping and portraiture.

He developed his artistic career mainly in France and Spain, especially in Valencia and Mallorca.

Important works by the artist, such as La desmayada, are permanently exhibited in the L'Almodí Museum.

In the Basilica Collegiate Church of Santa María de Játiva they have some paintings from Tudela, four on the pendentives of the dome that represent the four Evangelists; a panel with Saint Albert the Great and a canvas with the Virgen de la Seo.

In the Leipzig Museum they have the Painting of the Hermits and the Holy Christ of Pollensa and the painting of the Mallorcan Payesa in the Luxembourg Museum

In 1970 he died at the age of 79.

AWARDS:

In 1915 he won a medal for his work "Heroic Charge" in Marseille. In 1922 he participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts.

In 1923 he participated in the Valencian Art Exhibition held in Madrid with the painting Fuente de Pollensa acquired by the Government for the Museum of Modern Art.

In 1917 he painted the evangelists of the Church of the House of Spain in Mallorca.

In 1927 he participated in the Autumn Salon.
