"Jodi"— A Mounted Nanotyrannus Skeleton
"Jodi" — A Mounted Nanotyrannus Skeleton
Nanotyrannus cf. lancensis
Maastrichtian, Late Cretaceous (approx. 67 million years ago)
Hell Creek Formation, Garfield County, Near the town of Jordan, Montana, USA
An excellent exhibition-ready mounted skeleton, measuring approximately 9 feet 6 inches tall on the armature, and 19.6 feet long from nose to tail, with a femur length of approximately 33 1/2 inches and a humerus length of approximately 14 1/2 inches. The specimen represents a single individual, comprising approximately 191 fossil bone elements, “Jodi” is distinguished by a beautifully preserved, virtually complete skull, boasting an incredible 53 bones, including the maxillae, fused nasals, quadratojugals, jugals, dentaries and the braincase - alongside roughly 50 teeth in varying stages of eruption (with one rooted tooth fused to the outside of the right maxilla).
The postcranial skeleton is exceptionally well represented, preserving all the important morphological elements critical for comparisons. Noteworthy are the bones of the axial skeleton with 6 cervical, 11 dorsal, 5 sacral, and 15 caudal vertebrae, complemented by 15 cervical ribs, 25 dorsal ribs, 10 chevrons, and about half of the rarely found gastralia (belly ribs, which are osteoderms, and thus not reckoned within the bone count). Additionally included are a complete set of pelvic girdle bones and extremely well represented forelimbs with ulnae, humeri, and coracoids. A separate scapula & radius are also associated. In the manus, 15 of the 20 bones with all four claws are present. The rarely preserved furcula (wishbone) is complete. A complete femur, and remarkably 13 bones of the right pes including 3 of the 4 claws represent the hind limb bones.
Judging from the overall size and degree of bone development, it can be determined that the skeleton belonged to an adult individual. The lovely sepia coloration present in the fossilized bones result from the mineralization process and is also a consistent condition seen in other fossils originating from the Hell Creek Formation. The skeleton has been prepared and mounted free standing as in life on a custom armature, and restored with 3D printed and sculpted elements.
This outstanding skeleton is offered with full rights, and includes full documentation certifying condition, authenticity, and legality of ownership.
