N.B. Johan Bull emigrated from Norway in 1925, becoming an illustrator for the fledgling New Yorker magazine. He also created illustrations for Collier's, Life, and Forum magazines, as well as other pen and ink drawings, pastels, and watercolors. Although he never returned to Norway to live full time, he assisted the Norwegian government in exile as a journalist and illustrator in England during World War II.
