Johannes Hendrik Eversen became famous for his very finely detailed still lifes, inspired by the work of the great Dutch 17th century masters. He started out as a portrait painter, but discovered the beauty of the still lifes of Willem Heda, Pieter Claesz and Clara Peeters during his training at the Heatherley School of Art in London (1930) . The painter devoted himself wholeheartedly to perfecting the rendering of texture and the reflection of light on the various objects he depicted. He lived in Ede for the last forty years of his life, where he also painted a number of landscapes.
