The watercolour was offered and sold at Sotheby’s and had an estimate of 6000 euro to 8000 euro. J. H. van Mastenbroek 1875 - 1945was born in Rotterdam. Painter of river, harbour and city views, usually in or around his native city. From the age of eighteen, he painted and water coloured good harbour and city views, with the early work somewhat reminiscent of that of Jacob Maris. From around 1900 his brushwork and use of colour changed.
