A carved wood relief of the Holy Family with John the Baptist, attributed to Johann Georg Pendel
Carved and patinated wood. This relief, inscribed on the reverse "Hans Georg Pendel fecit Prag (.) 1652", depicts the Holy Family accompanied by the young John the Baptist and two angels in an oval composition. The court sculptor Johann Georg Pendel (Jan Jiri Bendl) was active in Prague since 1651 and is considered one of the most influential sculptors of the Bohemian early Baroque.
With a vertical hairline crack to the left edge. Mounted in a newer wooden frame. 19.5 x 15.5 cm (oval).
