Johann Nepomuk Mayrhofer was born in Oberneukirchen in Upper Austria in 1764. He was taught to paint under Johann Haslinger in Linz as of 1759 and later at the Academy in Munich. He became renowned for his botanical paintings and studies, and as a popular and exceedingly precise flower painter. He collaborated with the lithography studio of Hermann Mitterer in Munich to publish a number of lithographs noteworthy for both their scientific and artistic qualities.
