The present sculpture is an exquisite work by Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder; the posture, face type and pleats are comparable with a series of Pietà sculptures by the master from around 1750. Compare: Helga Achleitner, Johann Peter Schwanthaler der Ältere, Ried 1991, pp. 114 – 119.
