Joined the Academy in 1845. Also studied at the Academy in Amsterdam. Student of B. J. van Hove and Wijnand Nuijen. Teacher of M. Bilders-van Bosse, Kees van Waning and W. F. the hare. Belongs to the movement of the Hague School. Member of Arti et Amicitiae, Pulchri Studio, Dutch Drawing Society and Arti Sacrum Society.
