Provenance:
-With Kunsthandel Pieter A. Scheen, The Hague, where acquired by the artist jkvr. Eline Canter Cremers-van der Does (1896-1996), the grandmother of the present owner. She was a teacher of drawing and textile history from 1933 until 1961 at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, located on the Prinsessengracht in The Hague.
Johannes Klinkenberg was a student at the Academie around 1865. He once painted this watercolour of the old column building, a design by the city architect Zeger Reyers in 1839. Because of the striking facade with a triangular pediment supported by six columns it was nicknamed "the temple". The building was demolished in 1934.
