Johannes Hilverdink (Groningen, 28 January 1813 - 1902 Amsterdam Sailboats off the coast. Oil on panel, 19. 5 x 20 cm, signed 1841. Painting was cleaned and reframed two years ago. Still has the original 19th century frame. It is shipped expertly packaged and as registered package. Johannes was born in Groningen as the son of the actors Jacobus Johannes Marianus Hilverdink (1783-1828) and Anna Maria Corver. His mother was a granddaughter of the then famous actor and theatre innovator Marten Corver. The family moved to Amsterdam when Johannes was still young. There he attended the drawing academy. Hilverdink painted romantic landscapes and seascapes, mostly watercolours, pastel drawings and lithographs. Johannes Hilverdink is the father of Eduard Alexander Hilverdink, whom he also taught. In the Amsterdam, a street is named after him, the Johannes Hilverdinkstraat.
